[Class 94(i)] [Also in Group XXX] A machine for removing a group of bottles from a filled crate comprises shifting means 12 which raise the bottle group from the crate 2, whilst the bottles are guided by guiding means 8, a plate 13 being introduced laterally under the bottle group when in the upper position to support it. The machine may be modified to insert a group of bottles into an empty crate, in which case the operation is reversed. As shown in Fig. 1, a crate 2 arrives from the left on rollerway 4 against step 5. The crate has a longitudinal lath bottom through which pass shifting rods 12 carried by reciprocating plate 10 moving in guides 11. After the guiding rods 8 carried by plate 7, reciprocating between guides 6, descend to a position between the bottles the shifting rods and guiding rods both move upwards to lift the bottle group to the upper position at which position the plate 13 is slid forward beneath the bottle group and the guiding rods 8 then rise further and the shifting rods 12 descend to allow the bottle group to be discharged to the right by pusher 15 over delivery table 3. Upper plate 13 then returns to the left and stop 5 allows gate 2 to move to the right over rollerway 4, thus leaving the apparatus in the original position. In a modification, Fig. 4, the plate 13 is formed by longitudinal shafts 17 rigidly carrying blades 16, the shafts being rotated together by a driving bar so that in the one position the blades support the bottle group as shown, and in the second position the blades hang vertically downwards so that the plate may slide beneath the bottle group in the upper position and between the shifting rods 12. This form of plate permits the bottles to be discharged in a direction perpendicular to the paper.
