Abstract
659,177. Making hinges; extruding; aluminium articles. SAWARD, A. H. Feb. 3, 1949, No. 3058. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] An arm of a folding hood stay for a perambulator is made by extruding a metal strip having a cross-section which corresponds to the longitudinal section of the desired arm, cutting this strip transversely to form blanks and then removing portions of each blank. One or both the arms 1, 21, Fig. 8, may be made from strip, as 3, Fig. 1, for the arm 1, cut up to form blanks, as 2, each of which is drilled at each end. The blank for the arm 1 is cut to form a slot and for the arm 21 to form a reduced part to enter this slot. The holes 6, 24 may be bushed, the bushes projecting to space the stay from the hood. A pawl 30, which may be made from extruded strip, may be fitted. The stay may be made of aluminium alloy and be finished by polishing, e.g. by buffing or anodic treatment with or without dyeing.
