658,787. Step-by-step conveyers. THORNTON, A. A. (James Manufacturing Co.). Nov. 23, 1948, No. 30403. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group X] A ratchet-type conveyer for cleaning dairy barn gutters has a reciprocable member 13 positioned within and supported and guided by the gutter, 10, 11, and extending throughout the length of the gutter, a plurality of blades 14 being pivoted upon the member at distances apart less than its stroke, so as to swing into working position against stops 16 on the blades or on the member 13 on movement in one direction and out of working position on the return movement. Member 13 may be freely positioned in the gutter or constrained from transverse movement by guides secured to the gutter. The blades may be pivoted on a vertical axis, as shown, or on a horizontal axis, Fig. 5 (not shown). The member 13 is reciprocated by rod 26 pivotally secured by pin 25 to a bracket attached to one of the links of a chain 23. Member 13 may be a hollow tube with spaced holes by which the gutter may be flushed with water. Litter accumulating in trench 20 may be moved away by another conveyer.
