[Class 80 (iv)] A machinery guard particularly for a shortstroke press, comprises a bar 14 surrounding the front and sides of the press and coupled to the moving head by linkage mechanism arranged to move.said bar in a substantially horizontal direction and to a degree greater than the vertical movement of the moving head of the press. A secondary bar 15 disposed between the first bar and the press and coupled to the linkage mechanism has an upward movement simultaneously with, or subsequently to, the outward movement of the main bar 14. The bar 14 is connected to the ram R through a pivoted T-lever 20, the long arm 22 thereof having adjustable pin-and-slot connection 23, 24 with a slide portion 13 of the bar 14, one short arm 26 being pivoted at 27 to a double bracket 28 pivoted at 30 to a link 31 the upper end of which is adjustably pivoted to the guide 12 of bars 13, the other arm 16 being adjustably pivoted to a link 17 having adjustable pivotal connection with the ram. The bracket 28 is formed with pairs of holes 29 through one of which passes a bolt. As the ram descends, T- lever 20 pivots to move bar 14 outwardly. When the arm 26 of the lever is engaged by the bolt in the bracket 28, link 31 will be fixed upwardly to pivot guide 12 in its pivotal support 11 and move bars 14, 15 upwardly. The bar 14 may carry wire mesh curtains, and a concertina-like wire mesh or other curtain may extend between bars 14 and 15.
