Abstract
In the process of recovering a purified sulphur-selenium mixture from crude material containing the same having a sulphur content of at least one-seventh the selenium content by weight, by heating the material out of contact with air in a mineral acid such as sulphuric or phosphoric acids, which have a boiling point above the liquefaction temperature of the material, followed by washing of the resultant mass with water, the mass is further purified by heating out of contact with air in boiling water thus freeing the residue from the acid treatment. The sulphur-selenium ratio is preferably between 1 : 7 and 1 : 2 by weight, and sulphur may be added to the crude material to ensure the lower limit is attained.
