Abstract

657,904. Mine arches. WALTON GENERAL ENGINEERING & TRADING CO., Ltd., OLIVE, R. E. and WORRALL, S. Sept. 30, 1948, No. 25440. [Class 20(ii)] A strut, for spacing apart steel colliery arches, comprising a tube 14 with flat plates 15 fixed to each end, is secured to an arch by a bolt 20 passing through a hole 19 in each plate. Two adjacent struts may be secured by the same bolt. The tube may be secured to the plate by welding, by swaging the end of the tube over a rabbeted hole in the plate, Fig. 5, (not shown) or by forming threads on the end of the tube and screwing it into a tapped hole in the plate. According to the Provisional Specification the plate may extend on diametrically opposite sides of the tube, each extension having a bolt hole, and the strut may be a tube or a rod.
