657,746. Ladders. KERR & CO. (MANCHESTER), Ltd., J., and CLEMENTS, H. G. Feb. 5,1947, No. 3394. [Class 20(ii)] The ends of the rungs of a ladder having tubular metal sides b and rungs a are of reduced diameter and are secured in through-holes in the sides b by tubular plugs c located and subsequently expanded within the ends of the rungs so as to form an enlargement of each plug within the rung end behind the portion of reduced diameter. Each plug c may be provided with a head c<SP>1</SP>, and a pin d may be forced into the hole of the plug. In modifications, the outer ends of the rungs may be swaged over, or the ends of the rungs may be tapered, or each end may be stepped to form two shoulders a 4 , a 5 , Fig. 6 (not shown).
