Abstract
657,722. Two-part couplings; distribution boards. WEBB, C. D. H., and PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Feb. 26, 1949, No. 5297. [Class 38 (i)] A terminal connection for a wiring system comprises a double-ended socket with slotted, tubular ends, a slotted latch plate sliding transversely on each end in line with the slot therein and spring-loading means normally urging said latch plates into engagement with said slots. In the embodiment shown, two double-ended sockets 1, 2 integral with central pillars 3, 3a are mounted on a base 4 above one another by means of a screw 5. Spring clips 10 surrounding the ends of the sockets, partially close longitudinal slots 8 therein, the clearances 11 left receiving the lower edges of slots in the spring-urged latch plates 14 which are slidable vertically in guides 19 in plates 17 fixed on each side of the sockets. The upper ends of the plates are bent over to form depressor plates 16. Insertion into the sockets of ferrules 20 on the ends of leads depresses the latch plates until annular grooves 22 in said ferrules coincide with the clearances 11, whereupon the latch plates spring into engagement therewith and prevent removal of the ferrules until downward pressure on the plates 16 disengages the latch plates therefrom. In a modification (not shown) tiers of sockets are arranged side by side to form a bank of connections.
