Abstract
The surface layer of a playing area such as a tennis court, playground, hard cricket pitch, running track, &c. is prepared by forming an emulsion of 5-25 per cent by volume of rubber latex and 95-75 per cent bituminous material and mixing the emulsion with stone chippings to form an aqueous dispersion which is laid on a suitable foundation to form when solidified a resilient and porous surface. The proportion of emulsion used is below that which would seal the pores in the surface layer. The mixture including the chippings is screened on to a graded clinker or like bed.
