Abstract

657,197. Moulding machines. FOUNDRY EQUIPMENT, Ltd., and BEECH, A. S. Jan. 28, 1949, No. 2483. [Class 83 (i)] Apparatus for projecting sand into a flask comprises a circular casing having a lateral inlet and a peripheral outlet housing a rotor with at least one impeller blade which is held by releasable clamping means permitting the blade to be adjusted axially to compensate for wear of its free outer end. The apparatus comprises a cylindrical casing composed of an end wall 12, an annular plate 22, a hinged cover-plate 20 and a peripheral wall 18 mounted on a central hollow support 14, 16 through which projects a shaft 30 driven by gearing 44, 46. Rotatably mounted on the part 16 of the support is a rotor comprising a hub 26 and a circular body portion 56 fast thereon and having a number of tangential seats 58 for impeller blades of channel section having a base 68 and side walls 64, 66 of unequal length. The rotor is coupled to the end 31 of the shaft 30 by a plate 32 bolted toa flange 28 of the hub 26. In operation, sand is fed as by a conveyer 53 into a lateral inlet in the wall 12 and a wad is sheared off by the inclined edge 64 of each of the blades and projected through an outlet 50. The plates are held in their seatings by bolts 62 and may be adjusted for wear after opening the coverplate 20.
