Abstract

657,147. Soldering-irons. HERSEE, L. R. Dec. 13, 1948, No. 32220. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XI] A soldering-iron has an electric lamp in a holder mounted in or on the handle or shank thereof so as to divert a beam of light upon or adjacent the tip of the bit, and a switch in the circuit to the lamp to switch it off when not required, without affecting the heating of the bit. The lamp may be supplied from a dry battery and have a lens and reflector to concentrate the beam. Alternatively, the lamp may be placed in series with the resistance for a heating element and may be supplied through an auto-transformer. Preferably, the lamp is supplied through an auto-transformer connected direct across the mains supply to the heating resistance.
