Abstract

656,963. Protective cut-out arrangements. BRITISH. THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., and PAYNE, K. J. Jan. 18, 1949, No. 1402. [Class 38(v)] A rectifier bridge D fed from a threephase alternator A over a circuit-breaker B is protected against breakdown due to excessive reverse currents caused by overvoltages by the connection of a current transformer E1-E6 in each arm of the bridge. The transformer secondaries are connected together in parallel over rectifiers F1-F6 arranged so as to block secondary currents due to forward (normal) primary currents and to pass secondary currents due to reverse primary currents. A sensitive relay G connected in parallel to the secondaries is shunted by a smoothing condenser H. On an excessive reverse current, the relay G is energized to close the circuit of a trip coil C of the breaker B which thus opens. A rectifier is connected across each of the secondaries so as to prevent open-circuiting thereof on forward currents.
