[Class 110(ii)] [Also inGroup XXIV] A sliding-vane compressor has a rotor 8 with a transverse pin 10 in a slot 12, free to move axially between end walls 13,16 and rockable on a spherical driving end of a shaft 7. The ingoing air passes through a filter 19 and channel 20 leading to an inlet 14 and is discharged through a port 15, duct 26 and filter 28 where entrained oil is separated out, the cleaned air being forced out to a line 29. Oil is supplied to channel 20 by suction through a duct 21 from a wick 22 immersed in an oil well 23. Some air is trapped by the vanes 9 beyond the delivery port 15 and used to force oil between the rotor ends and the end walls 13, 16 and also past the vanes into their slots. For rotor balancing purposes a recess 17, in the wall 16, matches the shape of the exhaust port which it faces. A second inlet port 14<SP>1</SP>, connected to the channel 20, ensures that lubricant passes to the remote end of the rotor. Screws 30 clamp the wall 16, casing 32, wall 13 and parts 33, 34 forming the oil well, together. A fan 36 driven by the motor 3 supplies cooling air between vanes 35 on the compressor casing. The Specification states that the rotor is driven at 10,000 r.p.m. and supplies air at a pressure of 25 lbs. per square inch.
