Abstract
655,813. Ball-winding machines. HUSE. H. N. Oct. 20, 1948, No. 27255. Convention date, Oct. 25, 1947. [Class 120(ii)] A ball-winding machine comprises in combination opposed rotatable winding heads, ball-driving rollers carried by the heads, means for normally rotating the rollers about their axes in a common direction, supports for the rollers, means for intermittently rotating the supports first in one direction and then in the opposite in parallel relation on their axes, and means for intermittently deviating the normal rotation of the rollers to cause them to rotate integrally with the roller supports during their rotation in either direction. The heads 2, 4 each comprise three parallel shafts 34 driven from a shaft 18 through gears 24, 32, the shafts 34 driving the rollers 26, which are furnished with caps 29, through gears 40, 42. The heads 2, 4, as units, are driven from the main shaft 6 through gears 8, 10 and a hollow shaft 12. A cam 22 is driven by a hollow shaft 20 through gears 68, 66, having a different ratio from the gears 8, 10, so that relative motion obtains between the cam 22 and the head 2. A roller 61, (not shown), following the cam track 64 of the cam 22, rocks a gear segment 58, pivoted at 62, which meshes with a gear 54 meshing with gears 56 on the roller supports 36. The cam track 64 is so shaped that the roller supports 36 are not rotated on their own axes for two separated periods per revolution of the head 2 but that for two other periods the supports are rotated on their axes with an accelerated and then with a decelerated motion. Attached to the gear 10 is a cam 82, engaged by a follower 78, so that, through a lever 76 and gears 72, 70, the shaft 18, driving the rollers 26 is given a motion such that the rollers 26 are driven about their own axes while the roller supports 36 are not being rotated upon their axes, rollers 26 becoming fixed in relation to their supports 36, during the rotation of the supports on their own axes. Specification 467.552 and U.S.A. Specification 1,959.760 are referred to.
