Abstract

743,453. Toothed gearing. HARRISSEYBOLD CO. Oct. 5, 1953 [Oct. 8, 1952], No; 27244/53. Class 80(1) A driven shaft 26 is driven at two or more different but constant speeds during each revolution of a driving shaft 16 and means are provided for accelerating and decelerating between the different speed periods. As shown the driving shaft 16 has a gear 15 co-operating with a gear sector 27 on the driven shaft 26 and a gear sector 25 co-operating with a sector 29. The shaft 16 also has arms 19, 20 carrying rollers 21, 22 and cam surfaces 23, 24 which are adapted to co-operate with cam surfaces 30, 31 and rollers 34, 35 respectively on the shaft 26. The gear sector 25 drives the sector 29 at a low constant speed and the gear 15 drives the sector 27 at a high speed which the cooperating cams and rollers positively control the acceleration and deceleration from one speed to the other. In a modifified arrangement the sector 25 on the driving shaft is replaced by a complete gear and pairs of rollers on the arm of the driving shaft engage pairs of cam surfaces on the driven shaft.
