1357842 Laying Fabric M FONIO 16 March 1972 [27 April 1971] 12371/72 Heading D1S A fabric laying machine has a fabric feeding device comprising two spaced and mutually parallel rollers 5, 5' coupled to be rotatable at the same peripheral speed in mutually opposite directions and which are cairied by a frame so rotatably mounted that rotation of the frame through one half of a revolution causes the positions of the two rollers to be mutually interchanged. The machine runs on wheels along a table 1, Fig. 1, and carries a fabric roll 2 from which fabric 3 runs over a guide roll 4 or 4', between the rollers 5, 5' and through a hopper 7 to permit unstressed fabric to be laid on the table 1. Cutting of the fabric at the end of each lay is effected by devices in the hopper 7. The rollers 5, 5' are pivotable, together about a common bearing 6, Fig. 4, inside of which a shaft 9 is freely rotatable. Rotation of the shaft 9 by rotation of a chain wheel 8 thereon causes rotation of the roller 5 through meshing gears 10, 11 and rotation of the roller 5' in the opposite angular direction through meshing gears 13, 14. The ends of the rollers 5, 5' are supported in brackets 16, 17 connected by rods 18, 19 so that the rollers 5, 5' can be rotated from position A to position B of Fig. 3 to facilitate threading of the fabric through the machine. The rollers 5, 5' are retained in their operating position by a hook 25 rotatable about a pin 26 and releasably connectable to a fixed retainer 27. The rollers 5, 5' and the wheels of the machine are driven in synchronism by a mechanism from which the rollers 5, 5' can be freed by pulling a handle 22 to displace a rod 23. A washer 24 on the rod 23 is seated in a recess in the gear 10 and movement of the rod 23 causes the gear 10 to slide axially to be free of the gear 11.
