Abstract

655,681. Cathode-ray tubes. DU MONT LABORATORIES, Inc., A. B. Dec. 22, 1947, No. 33826. Convention date, Dec. 26, 1946. [Class 39 (i)] A fluorescent screen for use in a receiving tube for colour television has at least three sets of surfaces 5, 6, 7 on one side of it, the surfaces of each set being substantially parallel to each other and being non- coplanar with the surfaces of the other sets, the surfaces of each set fluorescing with a different colour when struck by an electron beam. Preferably there are three sets of surfaces, as in the Figure, each at right angles to the others and each fluorescing with one primary colour, such as green, red and blue. The screen may be arranged in a cathode-ray tube with three electron guns, an electron gun being arranged to fire a beam of electrons at right angles to each set of surfaces. Preferably the surfaces are coated with a thin layer of aluminium so that electrons striking the surfaces at right angles will penetrate the aluminium, but electrons striking at an acute angle will not. The other side of the screen may be provided with lenses, each lens being the size of a group of three surfaces, one from each set.
