Abstract
573,226. Cathode-ray tubes; television. SOLOMAN, A. Oct. 18, 1943, No. 17099. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] A cathode-ray tube; Fig. 6, particularly for large screen television, comprises a long, narrow, flat tube with a plurality of electron guns 24 ... 26 which are operative successively to scan a line in stages. In the colourtelevision apparatus, Fig. 1, successive lines of a picture 1 are projected on to the screen 6 of such a multi-gun cathoderay tube 7 by a rotating drum 2 with reflecting surfaces 2a, the picture being scanned successively for different primary colours through strip-filters 6b, 6g, 6r under the control of deflecting plates 12 and a deflecting circuit 13. The same apparatus is used also for reception to give a coloured image on a large screen 1, colour filters arranged on a rotating disc or drum or on successive reflecting surfaces of drum 2 being interposed in the path of the light from the tube 7. The drum 2 may be replaced by an oscillating reflector, or an oscillating lens may be used. Interlaced scanning with any desired ratio may be used, Figs. 2-5 (not shown), appropriate lines, e.g. every second, third or fourth, being suppressed by application of negative bias to one of the video-amplifier valves.
