654,947. Compressors. REUTTER, J. L. July 11, 1947, Nos. 18535 and 18536. Convention dates, July 26, 1946. [Class 8(i)] [Also in Group XXXV] An electromagnetically driven self-regulating compressor wherein the natural frequency of the oscillating parts, when running idle, is slightly lower than once, twice or half the frequency of the alternating feeding current, comprises two movable pistons 3 operating in a cylinder 8 secured to field frames 5 mounted on a base 11, each piston being connected to one of two parallel resilient blades 1 secured at the opposite end to the base 11 and carrying at an intermediate point permanent magnet armatures 2 and adjustable weights 12. The magnets 2 lie in the gap between the frames 5 which are provided with field windings 6 supplied with alternating current. In modifications the armatures 2 are replaced by electromagnets fed with D.C. or by iron cores or are fitted with shortcircuited windings. The field windings may be replaced by a permanent magnet and the armatures then comprise electromagnet fed with A.C.
