[Class 117] Peas, beans and like products are separated from the defective specimens thereof by being passed between, and in a direction opposite to the common direction of movement of two spaced endless moving surfaces which have needles 111 pointing in the said common direction of movement to impale and separate by transport the defective specimens. The length and position of the needles of one surface may be different from that of the other surface. Fig. 1 shows two parallel, inclined, endless. needle - studded belts 101, 102 adjustably spaced by arms 112 to form a channel 103 and driven so that the adjacent surfaces move upwardly. Hoppers 104 and 110 are provided at the top and bottom respectively of the channel 103 to feed the product thereto and to collect the sound " picked specimens. Brushes 106, 107 remove the impaled defective specimens from the needles 111 into hoppers 109, 108. Figs. 2 and 3 show an arrangement comprising an outer drum 91, having needles 111 on its inside surface, supported for rotation on rollers 114, 115 between end frames 116, 117. An inner drum 92 having external needles is rotatably supported on arms 119 which are fixed to the frames 116, 117 and slotted at 120, 121 to provide adjustable eccentric mounting of the drum 92 within drum 91 so that a " picking " channel 103 is formed. The product is fed to the upper part of the drum 91 at one end thereof via a hopper 104 and the sound " picked " product is discharged from the other end of the drum at 110. A common hopper 108 for the defective products is positioned below wiping-off brushes 106, 107. The inner drum 92 and the brushes 106, 107 are driven from the rollers 114 and 115 respectively.
