Abstract

654,553. Sliver-condensing rollers; stop motions. DOMINION TEXTILE CO., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1948, No. 25161. Convention date, Nov. 19, 1947. [Classes 120(i) and 120(ii)] [Also in Group VIII] Relates to a stop motion apparatus for a drawing frame having a sliver condenser comprising a pair of rotatably mounted shafts 10, 12 electrically insulated from one another and adapted for movement towards and away from each other, and at least one pair of condenser rollers 14, 16 mounted on the shafts, one roller 14 having a groove 24, Fig. 4, and the other roller 16 having a tongue 34 adapted to mate with groove 24, each of the shafts being adapted to carry a lead of an electric circuit. The grooved portion 22 of roller 16 is insulated from shaft 12 and from adjacent non-insulated ring members 28 by an insulating sleeve 26 and insulating collars 30, and portions 38 of roller 14 are adapted to contact the electroconductive members 28 to close the circuit and stop the drawing frame when there is no sliver between the mating tongue and groove of the rollers. Relative axial movement of the rollers resulting in contact between the sides of the tongue and groove thus does not cause stoppage of the machine. The rollers are urged together by clamps 18. Fig. 2, in which half bearings 44 engaging the shafts 10, 12 are slidable on insulating strips 46. One bearing 44 is insulated from the end frame member 42 of the clamp by an insulating member 60 while. the other bear-, ing 44 is engaged by a compression spring 48 the other end of which bears on an insulating seat 50 adjustable in the clamp frame by a set screw 52. To prevent lateral movement of the clamp relative to the shafts, bearings 44 seat in grooves in the shafts.
