[Class 66] A kettle is divided by a horizontal partion 5 into two compartments 21, 22, a little water always being left in the lower compartment after pouring, so that on heating, such water quickly boils and steam is raised, the spout being closed, so that the steam pressure opens, against spring action, a valve 15 secured by a wire 4 to a slide valve 1, the valve 15 allowing steam to escape, and the valve 1 allowing water to fall, a little at a time, from the upper compartment to the lower. Steam and radiation from the lower compartment raise the temperature of the water in the upper compartment.
