An electrical immersion-heated whistling- kettle, filled through the spout 13 has a domed top 11 secured to the base 12 by a tie-bar 16 received in a screw-socket 19 accessible from outside the kettle. A watertight joint is ensured, e.g. by conical mating-surfaces 20, 21, between which is a rubber gasket &c. 22. In modifications (1) the mating-surfaces 20, 21 &c. are above the heating element 15 and (2) the upper bolt 36 securing the handle to the kettle is omitted, and the tie-bar 16 passes through the upper end of the handle.
