653,541. Visible indicators ; electric indicators. FAIREY AVIATION CO., Ltd. June 29, 1948, No. 17454. [Classes 40 (i) and 118 (ii)] A visible indicator comprises an indicator plate which is movable with respect to a translucent window, so that when the plate and window are moved closer together the former becomes visible. A fire-warning lamp on an aircraft dash-board comprises a plate 14 bearing the inscription FIRE and mounted on a solenoid core 15. The plate is normally held beyond the focal point of a translucent dashboard lens 11 by a spring 18 and is invisible to the pilot. Undue heat in, say, an engine operates a thermal switch (not shown), and energizes the solenoid 17 which moves the plate. 14 up to the face of the lens 11 so that the inscription is visible to the pilot. The lens 11 may be mounted in a slidable tube arranged to move rearwardly towards a fixed plate 14, when the solenoid is energized. Instead of a solenoid any other means may be employed to move the lens or plate.
