[Class 118 (ii)] In an aerodrome having several runways, in order for the control officer to determine which runway is most suitable for use at any given time according to the wind direction an indicator pointer working over a panel in the control room is mechanically connected to an external weather vane. The particular runway to be used is lighted up by the control officer, in accordance with the indication given by the pointer, by the operation of switch gear housed on the panel which also carries a representation of the lay-out of the runways and pilot lights to indicate that the runway lights are on.
