[Class 94(i)] A device for filling sacks is characterized by a plurality of weighing or measuring apparatuses 1, 2, 3 and 4 arranged side by side while the centre lines of the discharging orifices thereof are all situated in the same vertical plane, a plurality of annular sacking mouth pieces 26 adapted to be moved horizontally on endless chains 25 underneath the said discharging orifices, while the centre lines of the said sacking mouth pieces are situated in the plane of the centre lines of the discharging orifices of the said weighing or measuring apparatuses, the said device being constructed in such a way that whenever a sacking mouth piece situated in the upper run of the endless chains is situated co-axially underneath a discharging orifice of one of the weighing or measuring apparatuses, one of the sacking mouth pieces situated in the lower run of the endless chains, on which mouth piece a sack may be hung, will be situated co-axially underneath the firstmentioned sacking mouth piece, in such a way that the two sacking mouth pieces will form a closed channel through which the material may flow from the weighing or measuring apparatus into the sack. The sacking mouth pieces 26, of generally tubular construction, are supported by rollers 23 moved along rails 21, 22 by intermittently actuated conveyer chains 25. The mouth pieces are provided with sealing rings 32 around their upper rims spring- pressed against apertured frame plates 17, 18, the lower rims of the upper mouth pieces engaging rubber sealing edges of the apertures in the lower plate 18, the upper rails 21 dipping a little above the apertures to ensure a proper seal. The sacks may be secured to the mouth pieces by a simple clamping band or, as shown in Fig. 3, by a clamping device comprising two segments 27 supported by arms 28 from which extend headed pins 29 passing through radial slots in a conical ring 31 secured to the mouth piece and through slots, inclined relatively to the radial slots, in a conical ring 30 loosely fitting under the ring 31 and connected therewith by tangentially acting spring means serving to keep the segments 27 pressed on to the mouth piece. A tube 42 may be welded inside the mouth piece for use with paper sacks, air escaping between the tube 42 and the mouth piece and through openings 43 formed in the mouth piece. Filled sacks are supported on a vertically adjustable conveyer 37 and are fed therefrom on to a conveyer 39 where the tops may be sewn up.
