Abstract

1357662 Testing aerosol containers JOHANN WALDHERR OHG 24 April 1972 [26 April 1971 6 April 1972] 18860/72 Heading G1S Aerosol cans are fed by a chute 14, Fig. 7, to the bottom of a hooded transparent trough 2 containing filtered 4 level controlled hot water at 50‹C to 60‹C and a meandering conveyer 13. The heated cans are delivered by a chute 15 to a wheel 6 which feeds them to chambers in a turnstile wheel 8 which may be sealed by a moving endless roller guided band (24) Fig. 9 (not shown) extending over a major arc of the wheel or by a fixed band (20), Fig. 7, tensioned by a jack 22 or a sealing segment (25) Fig.4 (not shown). The chambers in the wheel are sealed by a top cover or by replaceable sleeves 38 also carrying a centering device 39 and by bottom sealing platforms 36, Fig.12 raised to engage the chambers from below. A plurality of aerosol gas detectors are mounted adjacent the wheel and transmit signals to an indicator and reject mechanism when faulty cans are tested. Air scavenging nozzles remove any residual gas from unsealed chambers and the cans are removed from the turnstile wheel by a wheel 6', Fig. 11. In Fig. 5 (not shown) the turnstile wheel is replaced by an endless chain providing test chambers. A series of circumferential grooves 44 in the periphery of the turnstile wheel, Figs. 12, 13, are provided with staggered ports 45 which lead into the test chambers and are placed sequentially into communication with chambers 46, Figs.14, 15, of pivoted arms 43. These arms have ports 48 connected to gas detecting chambers 37, valves 51 and a vacuum installation 52 which evacuates any gas leaking into chambers 46.
