652,796. Locking nuts. RULE, T. B. May 19, 1948, No. 13501. [Class 89(i)] Relates to self-locking nuts of the type in which a slot or pair of slots 9 separates parts 10 at one end of the nut and consists in so deforming the parts 10 by bending or twisting that the leading ends 12 in the screwing up direction are either not displaced or are displaced outwards whilst the trailing ends 13 are displaced inwards to grip the bolt and resist unscrewing. A transverse groove 15 may facilitate the distortion and there may be a second pair of slots at right angles to the first.
