Abstract

652,700. Foot-arch supports. FLORSHEIM SHOE CO., March 12, 1948, No. 7576. Convention date, Sept. 8, 1947. [Class 17(ii)] A metatarsal foot-arch support consists of a plate 12 which can be attached as by nails through holes 18 to a heel of a shoe, and which extends to the region of the metatarsal arch, and a support member 14 above which a cushion 16 is fixed. The plate 12 with strengthening ribs 20, 22, 24 has a rectangular notch at its forward end with the edges 30 of the tongues formed by the notch turned down to support the plate, and an opening 32. The member 14 has a rearwardly extending tongue 34 with its base edges depressed, and a downwardly extending tongue to co-operate with the opening 32. When assembled and covered by an insole cemented in position the depressed portions of the support member 14 fit under the tongues forming the notch of the plate 12 and resist downward flexure of the plate relative to the support member while limited upward flexure is permitted.
