Abstract
652,583. Nails. POWERNAILS CO. Nov. 5, 1948, No. 28832. Convention date, Nov. 5, 1947. [Class 89(ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Sheet metal nails are of rectangular cross section and have the leading edge 4 of the shank on the inside surface 6 thereof, the end of the nail extending from the edge 4 as a continuous surface 5 to the opposite side 7 of the shank, the surfaces 5 and 6 being at an acute angle. The head extends entirely to one side of the shank and the combined length of the surfaces 7, 12 is equal that of the surfaces 6, 11. The surfaces 10, 11 are at an acute angle so that if the head of the nail be driven in flush the wood tends to overlie the sharp meeting edge and prevent withdrawal of the nail. On driving, the leading edge of the nail curves away from the side 7. The nails are stated to be suitable for nailing lids on to boxes having thin sides. The nails are cut from metal strip (see Group XXII).
