Abstract

652,548. Crop-dusting machines. WILLIAMS, J. F. Aug. 25, 1948, No. 22434. [Class 6(i)] A crop-dusting machine comprises a chassis 11 having a central section carrying means for delivering powder into an air trunk, and two lateral sections adjustable transversely relatively to the central section, each lateral section being associated with a land-wheel 53 and having a hood 54. The chassis 11 carries a motor 13 which drives the fan and the feeding device for the powder. The powder feed is similar to that described in Specification 641,558, and comprises a hopper 27 having a vertical worm 28 rotating therein, the powder being supported within the hopper by a mesh screen mounted on the worm shaft. The chain drive to the worm 28 from the motor passes through pulleys 18 and 22 on a shaft 15 and further pulleys on a countershaft 19, the drive between the shafts 15 and 19 being controlled by a jockey pulley 23 mounted on a pivoted lever 24. The lever 24 is counterweighted and connected to a rod 26 operable by the driver of the tractor by which the machine is drawn. The various hood-sections 51, 54, and the land wheels 53, are mounted by brackets 52, 64, 65 on a transverse structure 49, the brackets 52, 65 being adjustable laterally. Flexible trunking 55 leads from the fan 41 to the hoods 51, 54, the hoods being similar to those described in Specification 601,168. The front of the chassis carries a retractable sprag 47. The motor 13 may be used to propel the machine.
