[Class 110(iii)] [Also in Group XXII] A runner particularly for hydraulic turbines has blades comprising walls 1, 2 of sheet-metal welded together and reinforced by metal plates 3, 4, 5 and 6 which fit closely to the inner surface of the walls so that at the roots of the blades an increased thickness of walls is obtained which decreases stepwise towards the free ends thereof. The walls, reinforcing plates and a hub 7 are joined by welding to form a blade having external welding on the pressure surface and admission edge only. The suction wall may be formed by stainless-steel to resist pitting and corrosion.
