Abstract

651,856. Supplying air for combustion. BEKASSY, R. Dec. 1, 1947, No. 31748. [Class 126] Apparatus for supplying combustion air to an open fireplace from a source external to the room containing said fireplace comprises a hollow fire front 3, Fig. 2, communicating with a duct 8 below the floor boards and delivering air, either above the grate 2 through a nozzle 4 with an adjustable flap 5 whereby the direction of the air jet may be varied, or below the grate 2 through openings 10 controlled by a hit-and-miss damper 11. In a modification Figs. 4-7 (not shown), a pipe provided with an axial slot extends across the front of the grate just above the level of the grate bars in rotatable connection at each end with ducts leading below the flow boards so that again the direction of the air jet may be varied. A damper controls access of part of the air to the ash pit. A further modification comprises ducts 22, Fig. 8, at each side of the fireplace communicating with a space below the floor and discharging through nozzles directed across the fire, relief vents with slides 25 being provided on top of the ducts 22.
