651,748. Aerials; coupling arrangements. DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE, DIRECTOR OF THE OFFICE OF TECHNICAL SERVICES OF. Feb. 27, 1948, No. 5975. Convention date, Dec. 10, 1945. [Classes 40 (v) and 40 (vii)] A wide-band antenna structure primarily intended for use on aircraft, comprises an antenna formed of a cylindrical portion 11 and a truncated conical portion 21, the antenna being energized from a coaxial line 14, 15 with a quarter-wavelength matching section between the antenna and line formed of cylindrical conductor 12 concentric with line outer conductor 15 and connected to the antenna at the apex of portion 21. The line inner conductor 14 is connected to the top of the antenna and to conductor 12 by member 19 and screw 16. The line outer conductor is also conductively secured to a base-plate 24 by member 26. An insulating housing 23 encloses the antenna. It is not necessary for the matching-section to be a quarter-wavelength long within the operating band of the antenna.
