Abstract

628,283. Aerials. ELECTRONICS RESEARCH, Inc. Feb. 12, 1947, No. 4080. Convention date, Feb. 20, 1946. [Class 40 (vii)] An antenna unit comprises a pan-shaped conductive housing 11 having an electricallyopen side and an antenna element 10 formed of elongated flat strip grounded to the housing directly at one end and through a variable condenser at. the other end. The unit is designed for use on aircraft where the housing may be sunk in flush and connected with the vehicle skin by peripheral flange 18. A non- conduction sheet 17 may seal the housing against moisture. A coaxial transmission line 24 enters' the housing through a gland and connects with the antenna at a point 25 critically spaced from the grounded end. An alternative method of connection, Fig. 4 (not shown), employs capacitative coupling. The field pattern is generally uniform in planes normal to the surface into which the antenna is sunk.
