Abstract
650,377. Pencil holders. MOSSAY, P. A. H. Dec. 6, 1948, No. 31516. [Class 146 (iii)] To facilitate the sharpening of a lead, more particularly with a chisel point a grip 10 of a pencil holder is provided with pairs of inclined facets 21, 22 so that when the lead 12 and the facets are successively rubbed on a flat abrasive surface, corresponding facets are produced on the lead. The grip 10 is slit at 14. When inclined surfaces 15 on the grip 10 are clamped by similarly inclined surfaces 9 on a ferrule 8 secured to a casing 7, the grip 10 clamps the lead 12. The grip 10 is extended by an extension 13 screw-threaded at 17 for co-operation with a threaded recess 20 in a rod 18 having a milled head 19 rotation of which varies the clamping pressure exerted by the grip 10. In modifications, Figs. 7 - 15 (not shown), the ferrule 8 is internally threaded for engagement with threads on the extension 13 which is hollow to provide a storage space for leads. In a further modification, Figs. 16 18 (not shown), the grip may be clamped by a clamping bolt secured to one jaw by a transverse pin and through which the lead passes, a nut being provided on the bolt to adjust the clamping pressure.
