Abstract
649,952. Altimeters. SQUARE D CO. May 5, 1948, No. 12334. Convention date, May 6, 1947. [Class 40 (i)] [Also in Group XIX] A follow up control system described in Specification 620,279 is modified by a hunting motor 38 driving a cam-shaped contact 22 co-operating with a contact 14 operated by the altimeter bellows, to provide linear operation of the instrument pointer. The motor 38 is provided with two windings 71, 72, both fed from the main aircraft circuit through condensers 73, 74, a valve 75 being connected across the condenser 74. The valve 75 has its cathode 76 and suppressor grid 77 connected to one side of the line and its plate 78 connected through a resistor 79 to the winding 72. The control grid 81 is connected through a limiting resistor 82 to the contact finger 14 and the cam contact 22 is connected to the same side of the line as the cathode. Negative bias is supplied to the control grid 81 through a resistor 83 from the secondary of a transformer 84. The condenser 74 has a lower capacity than the condenser 73 so that when the valve 75 is not conducting the current in the winding 72 will be leading the current in the winding 71 to cause rotation of the motor in one direction. This is the condition when the circuit is broken at contacts 14, 22, when the circuit is completed at these contacts the direction of the motor is reversed.
