Abstract

649,145. Rollers. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., and HUXLEY, J. P. March 16, 1948, No. 7817. [Class 42 (ii)] A pressure roller device comprises a roller made of natural or synthetic sponge rubber having a surface coating of a composition comprising a stove-drying type resin-based oil varnish or a synthetic resin varnish resistant to rubber solvents. An impervious layer of natural or synthetic rubber composition may be interposed between the sponge rubber and the surface coating. The roller may be formed by dipping a sponge rubber body in a latex composition, coagulating the coating by dipping in formic acid, repeating the dipping and coagulating operations, washing and drying, dipping in a resin-based oil varnish, and heating under pressure to vulcanize the rubber layer and dry the varnish coating.
