Abstract
In a preparation of amino-carboxylic acids from aliphatic and cycloaliphatic lactams, the lactam is heated at a temperature between 150 DEG and 300 DEG C. in the presence of more than 20 molecules of water per molecule of lactam. The reaction may be catalysed by the addition of an aliphatic monocarboxylic acid with the general formula CH3(CH2)nCOOH, where n lies between 0 and 20. e -Amino-acid may be obtained by evaporating the solution or concentrating and adding alcohol, acetone, dioxane or a like liquid. In examples: (i) e -Amino-caproic acid (6-amino-hexane-acid) is obtained from caprolactam; (ii) 8-amino-2-methyl-octanoic acid is obtained from methylcyclo - octanone - isoxime. Methyl - cyclooctanone isoxime is prepared by reacting 1-methyl-cyclo-octanone-2 with hydroxylamine and re-arranging the oxime according to Beckmann.
