Abstract

648,417. Gravity separation apparatus. BAKER PLATINUM, Ltd., and MORGAN, I. April 8, 1948, No. 9881. [Class 46] Insoluble solids such as precious metals are recovered from waste liquors by passing the waste liquors from a waste pipe 3 of a hand basin &c. into a tank 1 at one end and discharging them at the other end through discharge pipe 6, said tank having an internal removable bottom lining 23, e.g. a fabric pad of felt which may be removed and burnt to recover the precious metals, and internal partitions 8, 10, 15 &c. which lie in planes substantially at rightangles to the general flow of the waste liquor through the tank and seated at their lower ends upon the lining 23 and are so constructed and arranged that the waste liquor is caused to flow in a sinuous path. The first compartment 7 of the compartments into which the partitions divide the tank and into which compartment the liquors are fed from the inlet pipe 5 has an outflow over partition 8 at the top to a second compartment 9 having an outflow in partition 10 to third compartment 12 at a level below the level of the inlet 5 of the first compartment 7, and the third compartment 12 has an outflow in partition 13 at the top to the fourth compartment 14 which has an outflow in partition 15 at a level below the outflow of the second compartment in partition 10, the fifth and further compartments being arranged in substantially the same relative manner as defined in relation to the first four compartments. The partitions 'are supported by spacing strips 20 of wood or like combustible material which allow subsequent recovery of precious metal particles by burning. The first compartment contains a box-like receptacle 40 to catch relatively heavy solids such as stone.
