Abstract

648.413. Hinges. THOMPSON PRODUCTS, Inc. March 13,1948, No. 7711. Convention date, Oct. 24, 1947. [Class 65(ii)] A joint structure comprises a housing 11, a stud having a shank 25 and a head 26, a ring member 34 encircling said shank and having diametrically opposed trunnions 35, means in the housing tiltably mounting the trunnions, and anti-friction elements consisting of roller gearings 31 between-said ring member and head, the latter bearing on a closure plate 17. Said mounting means consists of a part-spherical member 37 which seats on a complementary surface in the housing and is formed with bearing surfaces for the trunnions. A pin 42 projecting from the housing engages a slot 39 in the member 37 to permit tilting of the latter in one direction only. A slot 37a in the member 37 is engaged by the stud shank in the aforesaid direction and is elongated in a direction perpendicular thereto. The stud can thus rotate upon the bearings 31, tilt upon the trunnions within the slot 37a, and also tilt perpendicularly to the latter slot with the member 37.
