Abstract

647,113. Knitted fabrics. WILDT & CO., Ltd., BARSBY, E. S., and SAUNDERS, A. P. June 17, 1948, No. 16325. [Class 74 (ii)] Loops la cast off in narrowing, without transfer operations, a weft knitted fabric, are locked by the incorporation in the selvedge of a warp thread 3 which wraps round the selvedge loops so as to extend between the legs thereof. The thread 3 may also be incorporated in fabric widened without transfer operations. The thread 3 is wrapped round end needles or pairs of needles by wrap feeders and is laid below latches or around beards. If laid below beards, the beards are pressed to avoid knitting the threads 3. Every or alternate courses may be locked. One or more threads 3 may be used per selvedge and the method may be applied where more than one thread is used in knitting. The method is applicable to stocking blanks knitted welt first on straight bar or circular machines and to blanks knitted by combined reciprocating and circular knitting.
