Abstract
646,264. Making tiles, floor-plates, &c. BARLOW, N. S. (Naamlooze Vennootschap Betonfabriek de Meteoor). Aug. 24, 1948, No. 22236. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Forging ; angular bending ; cupping.- In a method of producing a sharply bent corner A, Fig. 3, on a plate 8, which may be a tile, floor plate &c. the plate is first bent to the form 8<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 1, by a plunger 5 moved by fluid pressure together with an annular plunger 4, the plate being supported by a stationary die 1 and a fluid-pressure plunger 7. Similar side plungers 2 then bend the flanges B into contact with plunger 5, the corners then being rounded. Pressure on the plunger 7 is next increased to raise the work and plunger 5 into the position shown in Fig. 3, plunger 4 remaining stationary, whereby material from the flanges B is upset to produce the sharp corners A. Four plungers 2 may be provided for producing four flanges on the work. In a modification a blank 8, Fig. 4, with side flanges 10 and inclined shoulders 11 is clamped between fluid pressure plungers 5, 7 and 13, whereupon an annular plunger 3 upsets the shoulders 11 to produce sharp corners between the flanges 10 and plate 8. The method may be used for flanging one edge only of a blank.
