Abstract
1,165,305. Doubling metal sheets. HMMERLE A.G. 18 April, 1968 [21 April, 1967], No. 18377/68. Heading B3E. A press for doubling the edges of metal sheets comprises a bolster 3 mounted between centring springs 4, a vertically movable die 5 adapted to be lifted off and lowered on to said bolster and a vertically movable forming tool 7 co-operating with said die, a sheet metal blank 8 being optionally interposable between the forming tool and the die or between the underside of the die and the bolster. After the edge of the sheet has been flanged by the tool 7 (Fig. 1) the die 5 is lifted off the bolster and the formed edge of the sheet is placed between the die and the bolster (Fig. 2). The tool 7 is lowered into the empty Vee-slot 6 and forces the die downwards on to the bolster to flatten the flange on to the sheet. The bolster yields laterally during this operation thus reducing the strain on the die. The die may be operated by pneumatic rams.
