Abstract

646,208. Treating wort. A. P.V. CO., Ltd. Oct. 28, 1947, Nos. 28740 and 31798. [Class 14(ii)] Brewers' wort is treated by passing it from a copper 1 through the low temperature side 12 of an indirect heat-exchange regenerator 4 where it is heated to about 240‹F., then through an indirect heat-exchange heating apparatus 5 in which the temperature of the wort is increased to the required maximum above the B.Pt. of the wort at normal atmospheric pressure, e.g. to about 250‹F. and held in the holder 6, and then through the high temperature side 13 of the regenerator 4 so as to give up some of its heat to the low temperature wort passing therethrough and is returned via a throttle 21 to control the pressure to the copper at a temperature still above the said B.Pt. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the copper contains a flushing chamber and a fountain device and the return flow enters the copper at the bottom into the flushing chamber to effect evaporation and agitation of the wort which boils up through the conical fountain device. In a modification of the latter, Fig. 3 (not shown), the wort is taken straight from the mash tun to'the regenerator. Specification 498,081 is referred to.
