Abstract
646,044. Profile gauges. NAPIER & SON, Ltd., D. Nov. 10, 1947, No. 29874. [Class 106 (ii)] The size and profile of a part D<SP>1</SP> of uniform cross-section is gauged by a tool comprising a trough A having the inner surfaces of its sides truly flat and parallel and each engaged by the outer face of a block B or C having a truly flat lower face at right angles to its outer face and an inner face shaped to conform to one of the sides of the part D<SP>1</SP>, the space between the blocks having a uniform cross-section and a longitudinal centre line inclined at a small angle to the outer faces of the blocks, one of which can be detachably connected to the trough. As shown, the size of the root of a turbine blade D is indicated by the position of the block C relative to a scale on a side of the trough, the block B being set in a datum position by a screw E. Chambers on the blocks facilitate the entry of the blade root between them. Errors in the angular position of the longituinal axis of the blade relative to the root may also be determined, and the blocks B, C may be used alone to detect errors in the relative position of the contours on opposite sides of the root.
