Abstract
627,153. Linear - dimension gauges. HARTLEY, A. J. June 28, 1947, No. 17097. [Class 106 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] A tool for gauging, measuring or marking off the depth and width of key-ways in shafts and bores comprises a body member having an edge curved to coincide with the curvature of the shaft or bore on which or in which it is to be used, and a gauge member of the width of the required key-way projecting from the said curved edge to the extent of the depth of the required key-way. A flat body member 10 has a straight edge 11 and an edge 12 curved concavely or convexly to fit a shaft or bore. A gauge member 16 is located in a groove 15 with ledges at each side and is secured by a bolt or set pin 17 whose head may be extended to form a handle 18, one handle being adapted for use with several such tools. Grooves 19 in the curved edge 12 allow for the feather liable to be formed during cutting of the keyway. One end of the gauge member 16 may be reduced as at 20 and when reversed may be used to gauge the depth before the full width is cut, the correct depth being indicated when the opposite end of the member 16 is flush with the straight edge 11. The gauge member 16 may be slotted for co-operation with the pin 17 either to allow for an adjustment in depth of key-way required or to allow the two ends to be used as " go " and " no go " gauges for the width of key-way by allowing the ends to project beyond the curved edge or straight edge, thus avoiding reversing the gauge member.
