Abstract

645,734. Bearings. TRIST, A. R. Sept. 13, 1948, No. 23985. [Class 12 (i)] In a bearing for a rotating shaft a wherein bushes or sleeves b, b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> are interposed between the surface of the shaft and its stationary bearing surface c, the speed of each bush is controlled by means mounted on each bush and responsive to the centrifugal force generated by the rotation of the bush. The control means may comprise thin flat circularly curved springs e, h, each of which is attached at one of its ends to a bush, and at the other to a shoe d, g. Each shoe d constitutes an "urging" shoe and may engage either the shaft a or the external surface of the next smaller bush or sleeve, and each shoe g constitutes a "checking" shoe which may engage either the stationary bearing surface c or the internal surface of the next enclosing bush or sleeve. The speed of each bush or sleeve is controlled so that the relative velocity of all the surfaces in sliding contact is substantially the same. Two shoes d and two shoes g are attached to each bush or sleeve.
