Abstract

645,348. Protective arrangements. STALHANE, B., and ANDERSON, V. Jan. 30, 1947, No. 2903. Convention date, May 13, 1946. [Class 38 (iv)] In order to increase the resistance to atmospheric corrosion and reduce the pitting of the surface by the discharge currents the spark gap electrodes in a lightning arrester or excess voltage protective device for low power, e.g. telephone circuits are made of a copper alloy containing 80 to 97.5 per cent of copper, having a melting point exceeding 1000‹ C., a thermal conductivity exceeding 0.3 gm. cals./ cm.<SP>3</SP>/sec./‹ C., and plasticity to permit coldrolling drawing &c., with the balance constituents consisting of either at least 5 per cent and less than 20 per cent zinc; 3 per cent or less tin ; 3 per cent or less aluminium ; or about 0.5 per cent silicon and 2 per cent nickel. The preferred balance consists of 10-12 per cent zinc.
