Abstract
644,867. Automatic regulation ; exciting dynamos. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. April 24, 1947, No. 10935. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] An unsaturated generator which is mainly self-excited and supplies a load comprising resistance variable with temperature has its excitation varied automatically in accordance with the resistance changes of the load so as to maintain a straight line characteristic of the generator. As shown, the exciting windings 41, 42 of the exciter 4 of the Ward-Leonard generator 2 are connected in a bridge circuit with resistances 41, 42 of negligible temperature coefficient and are fed by sub-exciter 5 which has. field winding 53 connected across the bridge and main excitation furnished by shunt coil 54, series coil 52 or both, a further field winding 51 aiding or opposing is connected to potentiometer 59 as shown and to resistance across the main generator. A similar bridge is provided for the sub-exciter 3 of the main motor 1, 6 being the motor exciter. Specification 644,911 is referred to.
